My Eye Level Story_Nurture Academic Success Beyond the Classroom

Here's a fantastic learning center that's renowned for exceptional Director and Instructors.

We had the pleasure of meeting with Dr. Desiree Yap, the Center Director of S2 Heights Seremban Learning Center. She has been at the helm as the Center Director for an impressive 6 years. Her confidence and expertise in Eye Level are so strong that her own son also used to study at an Eye Level Learning Center in the past.

Beyond just academics, Dr. Yap believes in equipping children with the skills to confidently nurture their own capabilities. She shared her insights into how children at the learning center can go beyond mere studying and truly develop their unique strengths. Let's explore her wisdom together:

🙋🏻‍♀Hello, Dr. Desiree Yap. I noticed there's a sign outside that says "Instructor Training Certified Center". Can you share the key to your success in this area?

💁Desiree Yap: Yes, we put a lot of emphasis on our instruction training. When I consult with our parents, I find that many parents have an interest in whether our instructors are certified in terms of instruction. Here, in our learning center, we ensure that all the instructors go through the Eye Level's Instructor Training Program and make sure they are qualified.

Another important thing is that instructors always communicate with each other. They often discuss students' learning progress and share their thoughts with me as well. I think this makes us more well-informed about our students' learning status overall.

🙋🏻‍♀Some people wonder how exactly Eye Level is helpful for their children's learning abilities, especially since it's not directly related to school curriculum. Don't you get that question a lot?

👩🏻‍🏫Desiree Yap: When we assess students, we sometimes encounter children who lack certain foundational skills. Although it might take a bit of time, I can confidently say that Eye Level can assist them in rebuilding these foundations, which, in turn, positively impacts their school studies.

Actually, a couple of days ago, one parent came to our center for an assessment. His son is already in year 6 but has some weaknesses in English and Mathematics. He mentioned that his son's school teacher had actually recommended our center!

I honestly told the parent that we would conduct an assessment to determine the extent of his son's learning gap. I also mentioned that it might take some time for him to develop the foundational skills and show significant improvements. It’s impossible to achieve significant improvements in a short time, so, it’s important for parents to be willing to accept lower test scores initially if it means that their child starts at the right point. If they are comfortable with that, even if the starting point is low, we can work on it with our expertise.

Initially, we aim to identify the specific areas where the student is struggling in. After that, we help students improve step by step, guiding them through our small-step approach to master Math and English. This is why we have a significant number of students who perform well both at school and at the learning center. Some students have even mentioned that they used to struggle with tests – never succeeded in passing the test. However, after joining Eye Level, they manage to pass the tests easily.

🙋🏻‍♀Are there any additional tips you'd like to share, especially for parents struggling to see improvement in their child's learning?

👩🏻‍🏫Desiree Yap: Foster an environment where your child can study outside the Learning Center.

Consider a student whose family doesn't speak English. This student learns English at our learning center but doesn't use English at home. If you believe that 45 minutes at the center alone will significantly improve her English, you are mistaken.

The key is practice. We provide an online platform, the Learning Room, where Eye Level members can continue studying what they've learned in the center. After the class at the learning center, your child can continue studying at home using this platform. This repetitive process will effectively reinforce your child's learning abilities. Our center also ensures that our students have additional assignments. We assign and monitor their progress.

We understand that practice significantly enhances students' learning. It does require extra time, but it helps students improve their learning skills. Indeed, learning skills highly depend on both the parents and students.
